[Anyone who walks by or happens to be watching the network feed will see a frustrated kid siting on the grass and flipping through an old, battered journal.]

There isn't anything in this book about 'Pokémon'! Or how a sheep can produce electricity! That mom lady must have been a shape-shifter who didn't look anything like my mom... and that professor makes McGucket look sane...

[The gear moves towards the boy before it's tossed to the ground. Unfortunately, it lands face down, obscuring whatever threw it and the boy.]

Hey! Don't break that. We might need it later.

[A shriek was an understatement. Where did this girl come from????

Dipper tries not to back away from sudden stranger in his face. She didn't look like she could harm him... then again, neither ad Wendy when he first met her. Girls are still a mystery he can't solve at the age of 12.]

N-No! I'm fine! I mean, y-yeah, I just got here.

[Why are you so friendly with a stranger, girl?]

[Jade looks startled by the shriek--what the hell, she wasn't even sneaking, he just wasn't paying attention!]

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry!

[B-but still, he's a little kid, that wasn't very nice of her.]

I was looking for my friends earlier, so I figured maybe other people might be looking for theirs as well.

[That's sometimes a common occurrence. So engrossed in his work that he forgets the world exists.

Dipper looks around before standing up and dusting himself off.]

I don't think any of them would come here. Not if Bill has a hand in this. But if you ever meet a girl named Mabel, that's my sister.

["Bill"...? Is that his world's version of Lord English or Jack? God, how horrible for him, not only being alone but thinking it's because of some supernatural abomination.]

That's a funny coincidence, if you ever meet a boy named John that is probably my brother. We're twins, so he looks a little like me--though his glasses are square shaped and he has blue eyes.

But you never know! I thought I was alone here, too, until my friend found me! Maybe yours just haven't found you yet.

[Dream demon is a better term for what Bill is. A nasty dream demon who was bent on destroying the world apparently.

Wait...]

You're a twin, too?

I am! So Mabel is your twin, then!

[Aw, so they're both twins separated from their other halves. Except she assumes Dipper and Mabel were born as humans usually are and weren't...cloned like herself and John.]

My friend Dave is a twin as well, and he's here--well, not here here, he is somewhere else in the region and I have to catch up with him. We should form a twin club!

[Very much born the normal human way. At least Dipper is going to be friendlier with you now, Jade, since you are a fellow twin.]

So are my Grunkles. Are there a lot of twins where you're from?

[Grunkles? She turns over the word in her head--it sounds like "grandpa" and "uncles"...grandpa-uncles? What kind of messed up birthing order is that?

...Oh, wait, no Harley--great uncles are a thing, don't be stupid.]

I actually don't know, honestly. I grew up on an island away from civilization and didn't even learn John was my brother until three years ago.

[There are...a lot of clones. And a lot of versions of them from different timelines. But that's not the same thing and she's certainly not going to talk about that and freak out a little kid.]

[That piques his interest. An island away from civilization. Was she human? Maybe some princess or sorceress being hidden from the world? Or some kind of diabolical demon in disguise? ~~Dipper, no. Stop thinking like that.~~

Wait. Three years?]

You didn't know for three years? How did that happen? Did your parents tell you why?

[~~Well, she's the Witch of Space, and technically considered royalty of a dream world? It's weird.~~

"Parents"...Jade frowns and looks down at the ground. Her little Froakie companion peeks his head out from the nest of Jade's hood and her hair that he had created. Is something wrong?]

It was just circumstance, that's all. I don't think John's dad even knew about me. [She specifically calls him "John's dad" because, well, that's who he is--not her dad.] I lived with my grandpa on the island, but he died when I was really young...the same for John's grandma--our grandma, I suppose. Neither of us really knew our family that well.

[...]

Haha, sorry, I did not want to bring heavy stuff to the world of Pokemon. [She never actually thought about it before, but it is kinda sad.]

[Oh man.

That is both depressing and awkward.

How is he supposed to answer that one? Hmmm..]

That's... rough.... Why... not make a family here?

[She smiles gently--he said that with such conviction and honestly Jade appreciates it. She's not used to being around other people in the same sense as other kids are, since she lived alone with only the company of a dog and text on the internet.]

It's a good idea, but I think for now I will concentrate on making friends instead. Friends are a little like family. [Family that you actually chose and didn't have to clone in a lab.] My name is Jade, Jade Harley--do you suppose we can be friends?

[Don't tell him about the clone thing. That's weird, scary, and he'll want details.

Introductions time!]

Dipper Pines... yeah, I guess we could be.

[The twins thing puts you on a higher level than all these other strangers.]

Dipper?

[A pause.

That look is the look of a nerd that is excited about space.]

Like the Big Dipper? Oh my gosh, your parents named you after a constellation? That's soooo coooool!

It's actually a nickname.

[Maybe he'll show you his birthmark if you don't pry too much.]

...Oops. Haha, of course it is. Sorry.

[She feels silly about getting so excited.]

No, no, it'd be pretty cool if that was my real name.

[No one canonly knows his real name except his family and him AND NO ONE IS TALKING.]

I think so, too. It sure would be different from regular old names like mine!

[A pause, an idea strikes her.]

Oh, you know what, that might be a cool thing to name Pokemon after? Constellations and stars and planets--I think I will try a theme like that for any new Pokemon I get!

[The Froakie has already been crowned "Lord Bubblington" for the moment, maybe if he gets less cute and more cool she'll think about giving him a new title.]

Your name's not that regular. I've never met anyone named after a precious stone before.

[That he can think of...]

A theme? [He needs one now.] ... what about gods or monsters?

Of course you have--me! Now you know at least one person.

[Surprising that he hasn't run into a Ruby or Opal at least once, though.]

That sounds like a cool idea for a theme, which mythos were you thinking--Greek, Norse...?

That's true. There might be more here.

[That's a tricky one.]

Maybe whatever god strikes me as a good name? So any of them.

Wild card sounds good to me! Much more choices down the line--there are a lot of Pokemon.

[She's played the original games with 150 and now there's so many more.]

But you can't get Pokemon without journeying out of the starting town! Wanna come with me?

[A choice must be made...

Steeling himself, Dipper looks serious as he nods.]

I'll go with you.

[!!!]

Great! I have a friend over in the town after the first one we'll reach, he's been here longer than me so he'll have a better idea of what to do around here.

Don't worry! With the two of us together, we will surely be able to brave the wilds of the Pokemon world!

[Don't let him get killed, Jade.]

Then let's get going before the weather gets rough. There's snow on the horizon.
