[Anyone who walks by or happens to be watching the network feed will see a frustrated kid siting on the grass and flipping through an old, battered journal.]

There isn't anything in this book about 'Pokémon'! Or how a sheep can produce electricity! That mom lady must have been a shape-shifter who didn't look anything like my mom... and that professor makes McGucket look sane...

[The gear moves towards the boy before it's tossed to the ground. Unfortunately, it lands face down, obscuring whatever threw it and the boy.]

Hey! Don't break that. We might need it later.

That's right. Those are the names of three Pokemon, too, in the order they evolve- Abra, Kadabra, and then Alakazam.

Are they magicians?

Well...they're Psychic type Pokemon, which are probably as close to magicians as you could get...

And I am, yes. I'm from Tokyo.

Why are Japanese horror movies so weird?

Japan sure has a different take on what's scary.

You can say that about movies from other countries too though, can't you? I mean...not every movie is all that scary.

[Some American "scary movies" are just as weird, man. Not like he'd know though...he's not much of a movie watcher anyway.]

True. "The Shining" isn't that scary once you realize it's supposed to be a psychological horror instead of a horror movie like Alfred Hitchcock's "Birds".

[Eight Legged Freaks is a really weird horror movie. Mutated spiders were a horror movie staple.]

As far as "The Shining" goes, I personally like the novel better.

[There's a shock.]

And "The Birds"...well, that has its own style of horror, I suppose.

Reading is fine, but actually seeing it on screen makes it more real.

If you want something that might give you nightmares for a while, you should check out "The Thing" or the original "Aliens" movie.

That makes me wonder if this world's equivalent of those movies are here. I can promise you that they're probably...different.

Hmm... I have a feeling that they wouldn't be as gory as the ones I'm used to.

Yeah, I doubt it. Nothing here ever really is.

Can anything bad happen here? Or is it all some PG-13 kids kind of place?

Bad things can still happen, of course. They have, in the past.

Some guy was talking about killer monsters back in October.

Mmhm. They were...fusions of different Pokemon that had been rampaging through the regions. They were attacking people...and it was causing people to change into Pokemon themselves.

[That sounds both worse and scarier.]

So like how a werewolf changes people when they bite them?

Pretty much, yeah. It didn't happen to everyone, but a lot of people were affected by it.

[Thankfully though, that did get resolved.]

[So some of these creatures had lycanthropy capabilities.]

And the cure?

[Silver bullets? Holy water?]

There was an antidote that was administered to everyone after all was said and done. And without much time to waste, too.

Did they use the blood of one of the monsters to make a cure? Or one of the survivors?

I'm actually not sure about that. You might be able to ask one of the nurses at the Pokemon Center, but I don't know how much they'd say. All I know is that it was an "antidote".

[If there was blood involved, he doubts they would disclose that sort of info. But who can say, really.]

Yeah, like they'd take a kid like me seriously. They'd probably tell me it's magical, like fairies and trolls.

I wouldn't take it too personally. The locals are just like that. Sometimes they prefer not talking about certain things, especially with people who aren't from around here.
